In this design note, we explain an alternative approach to secure data encryption and decryption operations that can use existing unprotected hardware block cipher implementations while achieving provable security against side-channel attacks. The approach is a protocol-level” countermeasure1 whose security is based on realistic and testable assumptions about side-channel leakage from implementations of block ciphers and hash functions. In addition, the construction allows a significant safety margin, so security does not depend on controlling and modeling the precise analog properties of a device. The approach is well suited to military and aerospace applications for which the implementer can control how cryptographic primitives are used to solve a particular security problem.

MMI breakout connectors are available for input devices such as touchscreens and keypads. The standard audio outputs are broken out to support microphones, speakers and direct-line audio I/O. The audio interface supports audio features such as noise/echo cancellation and multimedia features such as Dolby 5.1 Surround.
