Materials for new semiconductor processes will also need (notably for variability or 3D solutions to come) more multi-physics TCAD developments supported by such tools.

The purpose of the System-Level Catalyst Program is to promote interoperability between system-level design solutions (30 members in EDA, IPs, eSW, Services).

Three different copper transmission media are available for automotive networks: shielded twisted pair (STP), shielded twisted quad (STQ) and coaxial cable. The requirements for bit rates and transmission distances STP and STQ are identical and are summarized in Table 2 .

Because telecommunication systems require by essence to conform to a common standard that covers static and dynamic interfaces, telecommunication standardization bodies as well as telecommunication equipment manufacturer have been using advanced modeling technologies such as MSC, ASN.1, SDL, and TTCN for years. In fact these technologies cover the whole development cycle from requirements, specification, design, and test. That is why it should definitely be considered when developing communicating systems.

The left test circuit in Figure 4 assures that the drive capability of a SymPol transceiver meets the requirements of RS-485 with a specified minimum differential output voltage of VOD = 1.5V across 54 Ohm, which equals the parallel circuit of the two 120 Ohm termination resistors minus 10 percent.

Clause 11 of IEEE 1394-2008 specifies transmission over plastic optical fiber (POF) and hard polymer clad fiber (H-PCF) at data rates of S100 and S200. Transmission distances can be up to 50m for POF and 100m for HPCF. Currently available POF and HPCF technologies can support data rates of S400 and S800.

Once the information is complete, it should be noted in the design notes file for the project. Include any equations used to calculate the timing requirements and any special timing information: for example, the requirement in 3 and 7 requiring synchronous timing to the time update, and the notes in 8 and 9 concerning the inclusion of the startup and off times for the tone generator. At this point all the timing information for the system should be known and documented.

Step 4: Creating the proximity sensor and special software I live in Huntsville, Alabama, USA (I moved here for the nightlife [grin]). I have a friend called Joe Farr who lives just outside of London in the UK. Joe is amazing when it comes to anything to do with creating software and hardware and – over the years – we've worked on a number of wild and wacky projects together.
