To design some complex systems in the past, designers have had to sacrifice performance by partitioning designs across multiple PLDs, Altera explains. But with the new PLD, the company says that its customers can develop complete systems by integrating multiple high-speed intellectual property cores all on a single programmable logic device.

One of the main reasons I use the iPod for quick searches is because itstarts up so quickly.  Since the battery lasts for a fairamount of time I rarely, if ever, turn it off.  I just let itsleep so that when I want to use it, it comes on almost instantly. And the keyboard and screen size are good enough for quicksearching.  I typically power down my PC when I don't expectto use it for a little while as the mouse is very sensitive and it willcome out of hibernate mode when we walk on the floor.  So toconserve power I turn it off.  Although it is a new computerit still takes a few minutes to turn on before I can start surfing.

The new specifications could help unite a variety of broadcast services here. A broadcast satellite relaying digital TV over the 12-GHz band will begin transmissions in December, and digitalization of other TV broadcasting will follow.
